How time flies!!! It is now the end of Semester 2 and what a great Semester it was. Whilst everyone is probably worrying about their finals now, remember to balance study by taking a break to refresh your mind (especially as Season 7 is drawing closer to the end and the need for elo gets ever more important for the fantastic end of season rewards on offer).
We have a viewing party lined up for the upcoming 2017 Worlds Finals on Saturday (04/11/2017). Be sure to come join everyone on the UNSW LoLSoc Discord Channel as we watch Samsung and SKT battle it out!!!
Merchandise is still up for grabs at our website. Hoodies are now sold out now, but there are still other value deals so make sure your don't miss out!
Thank you to everyone for continuing to turn up at events and supporting the society for the entire year.

As the 2017 League of Legends Worlds Championships draws ever closer to the fated finals to be held at the Bird’s Nest stadium in Beijing on 4th November, it is easier to forget that it has been an exception tournament thus far. From Misfits’ daring pick and ban strategies against SKT in one of the most exhilarating best of 5 series ever to Samsung’s stunning 3-0 demolition of Longzhu that only the wisest (perhaps most drunk) person would only predict, Worlds 2017 has certainly lived up to its lofty name. Without further ado, here are some of the selected moments so far in the knockouts stage.
Number 3 – Samsung Galaxy 3-0 Demolition of Longzhu Gaming
Heading into the first all-Korean affair in the entire tournament, Longzhu Gaming was the red hot favourite against a Samsung Galaxy team that looked a little bit shaky in the group stage against a rampant RNG side. However, Samsung went on to defy all expectations to dismantle a hapless Longzhu side in their first Worlds tournament following strong performances from the ever reliable top laner, Cuvee, and a resurgent Crown in the mid lane. Led by a stunning quadra-kill from Crown on Taliyah, Samsung crushed Longzhu’s dreams (as well as all those pick’ems) to reach the semi-final where they will battle with the remaining Chinese hope, Team WE on Sunday night. Be sure to tune in and follow this exciting series.
Number 2 – Misfits Pick/Ban Strategy
Following the excitement caused by GAM’s ingenious picks in the group stages, Misfits were clearly inspired by their outlandish drafting strategies in their series against SKT. Debuting aggressive laning supports such as Blitzcrank and Leona with Ignite and Fervour, Misfits played a series to be remembered to push the Korean giants, SKT. Whilst SKT eventually secured a scrappy series victory, Misfits can certainly hold their heads high as they have shown the world what Western teams are capable of despite the continuing dominance of the East.
Number 1 – Faker Carrying SKT
Whilst it seems expected that SKT is once again competing in the Summoner’s Cup in the finals, it was not all smooth sailing. However, Faker, SKT’s star mid laner, consistently played to an extremely high level to lead his team to victory in the gruelling knockout stage thus far. From his performances on Taliyah against Misfits in the quarterfinals to playing Galio only in all 5 matches in the semi-finals against RNG, Faker displayed unshakeable resolve to outplay his opponents and help his struggling teammates to ensure that the SKT juggernaut continues its slow march towards Beijing.
Stayed tune for the next edition!!!
